African Road Park
Vestal, NY
Number of Courts: 1

Located across the Vestal Parkway from Wal-Mart and Old Navy, this park is small, with just a picnic area and the one tennis court.  The first thing you will notice is that you have to walk down a fairly steep hill to get to the courts.  Apparently, no one thought to build a set of stairs, or at least put a cement path.  Good luck making it down after a rainfall without falling at least 2 or 3 times.  And when you get to the bottom, you may not want to be wearing your nice white tennis sneakers because there will be plenty of mud puddles surrounding the court like a moat.

The court itself is not bad.  The surface is even with no significant cracks.  The nets could use a little tightening, as well as a center strap, but they are not as loose as many others.  There are no wind screens on the fence, but the court is fairly well protected from wind by trees on one side, and the hill of the other three sides.  The single court makes it tough to plan a game, as you stand a good chance of it being occupied when you get there.

Overall, it is a nice place to hit around if you can get on the court.  But the nets and lack of a strap make it less desirable for a real competitive match, especially with better alternatives just a few minutes away.

Score - 5/10 Good to hit around for fun, but not recommended for serious players.
