Binghamton University West Gym Vestal, NY Number of Courts: 14 |
| The Binghamton University West Gym
tennis courts are some of the
best courts in the county if you are lucky enough to get on
them.
They could use resurfacing, considering the school's
Division
1 status and the fact that the school spent over $33 million on an
Events
Center. The surface was repainted before the Fall 2006 season, making
the
out of bounds a darker green. It looks nice, and it is an
improvement,
but the surface is still a bit rough.
There are two sets of seven courts. The back seven are mainly used for warm ups and recreation and have some minor cracks in the surface. The main courts have no cracks. Water drains off the courts themselves, but leaves puddles just off the court for stray balls to roll into. There are wind screens on two sides, and hills protecting the other two. The nets are excellent, especially during the college season. But during this time, even with 14 courts, it is very difficult to find one available. The nets do loosen up a bit in the summer as they are not maintained during the off season. There are two water fountains and a bathroom at one corner though the bathroom is not always unlocked. As a bonus, an adjacent handball court allows players to warm up waiting for their opponent to arrive. |
